Shelley Smith is a Certified Master Dog Trainer, with an educational background in Psychology. She has been training dogs and their owners for over 16 years. Shelley's training combines counter conditioning (replacing unwanted behavior with more appropriate behavior) and positive reinforcements rather than just the old method of reprimanding for bad behavior.
Shelley is a published writer on dog behavior and training. You can read some of her articles on this website here
Shelley keeps current in the dog world by attending seminars and workshops on dog training and behavior and by competing in obedience and dog sports with her own dogs. She currently lives with a German Shepherd and a cat. She has also provided a good home to Rescue Dogs.
Many listeners in the Lower Mainland will have heard Shelley on CKNW Radio with Phillip Till, as their dog behaviour specialist. She has also written a monthly dog training column in The Richmond News called "Barking Back".
In 2008, she was a member of the Dogs in Parks Task Force formed by City of Richmond to help solve local dog issues and problems occuring throughout the city. She was the only canine specialist that was invited to participate in the organization due to her extensive knowledge and expertise.
